Collin County is susceptible to a number of different natural hazards that have potential to cause property damage or loss, loss of life, economic hardship, and threats to public health and safety. Occurrence of natural disasters cannot be prevented; however, their impact on people and property can be lessened through hazard mitigation measures.

Through the development of this plan, the Planning Team identified the natural hazards that could affect Collin County, and evaluated the risks associated with these hazards. The implementation of this plan will make Collin County more disaster-resilient because the benefits that can be gained by planning ahead and taking measures to reduce damages before the next disaster strikes have been recognized.
