In July, Forbes released an article titled “America’s Fastest-Growing Suburbs”, which ranked the top 100 fastest-growing suburbs in the nation. Five cities from Collin County found in the list include: Frisco (7th), Wylie (8th), McKinney (13th), Sachse (22nd), and Allen (33rd). As part of our 2007 Interlocal Agreement with the City of Wylie, the GIS Department analyzed population growth within the Wylie Fire District. Here is a poster the GIS Department created that analyzes population growth within the Wylie Fire District from 2000 – 2007 using single family housing and multi-family housing data. This map was recently entered into a student competition and took home second place out of eleven entries. Numerous, highly respected, GIS Professionals feel that favoritism and bias may have interfered with true map justice as it was revealed that the winning entry was produced by the competition organizer.
