National
Volunteer Week: April 23-29, 2006
"We make a living by what we do, but we make
a life by what we give." - Winston Churchill
Are you inspiring by example? Volunteers have the power
to inspire the people they help, as well as, to inspire others to serve.
That is why this year's theme for National
Volunteer Week is "Inspire by Example". Sponsored by the
Points of Light
Foundation, National Volunteer Week is a time to thank all of the
people that have given selflessly of their time and skills in order to
serve their communities. It is also a time to promote volunteerism to
others.
Volunteer to Assist Your Community When They Need
You Most... Become a Medical Reserve Corp Volunteer
No one hopes for a disaster, but Collin County has plans
in place to respond if an emergency affects our community. In the event
of a large-scale public emergency, volunteers will be needed to supplement
existing local emergency and public health resources. The mission of the
Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is to establish teams of local volunteers
who can contribute their skills and expertise throughout the year and
during times of community need.
What do Medical Reserve Corps Volunteers do?
- Support local public health initiatives
- Assist local hospitals and health departments with surge personnel
needs
- Participate in mass prophylaxis and vaccination exercises and community
disaster drills
- Train with local emergency response partners
- Prepare for and respond to emergencies
