Collin County Completes
Its Strategic National Stockpile Distribution Plan May 16, 2003
As part of its ongoing effort to prepare for a bioterrorist attack, the
Collin County Bioterrorism Response Team completed the development of
its Strategic National Stockpile Distribution Plan in May 2003.
In the event of a terrorist attack using biological weapons agents, the
Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) may be deployed to provide Collin County
hospitals and first responders with additional medical supplies and pharmaceuticals
to prevent the spread of disease and treat the injured. When deployed,
the SNS supplies will be delivered to the county in bulk loads of up to
50 tons.
Under the direction of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
and the Texas Department of Health, Collin County developed a distribution
plan outlining the operational concepts, responsibilities and procedures
to respond to a mass casualty disaster and distribute needed pharmaceuticals
and medical supplies provided by the Strategic National Stockpile.
Although only a plan, it provides a foundation for planning, preparedness,
and training in preparation for any disaster that may require the county
to distribute supplies to hospitals and medication to county residents.

SNS website.
