Additional MRC Information

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was founded after President Bush's 2002 State of the Union Address, in which he asked all Americans to volunteer in support of their country. The MRC is a specialized component of Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensuring hometown security. Citizen Corps, along with the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Peace Corps are all part of the President's USA Freedom Corps, which promotes volunteerism and service throughout the nation.

The U.S. Surgeon General has outlined priorities for the health of individuals and the nation as a whole. The overarching goal is to improve health literacy, and in support of this, work towards increasing disease prevention, eliminating health disparities, and improving public health preparedness. These priorities provide Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units with specific areas to target that will strengthen the public health infrastructure within their local communities.

The great strength of our community is found in the heroic kindness, courage, and self-sacrifice of our citizens.

In the event of a large-scale public emergency in Collin County, people with both medical and non-medical training will be needed to assist and support the existing emergency management infrastructure. Currently, the Collin County Medical Reserve Corps needs volunteers with a variety of skills.
