Collin County District Attorney’s Citizen Prosecutor Academy
September 6, 2007 to November 8, 2007
The inaugural class graduated in the fall of 2004 and
due to the success of the program our next academy, Class VII, will begin
September 6, 2007 and end on November 8, 2007. New classes will be held
in the spring and fall of each year.
Each class will consist of about 35 persons from around Collin County.
There is an application process and a criminal background check before
you can be considered for acceptance to the academy. Once you are accepted,
your class will meet on Thursday nights from 6:45pm-9:15pm for ten weeks.
Experts from various divisions within the DAs Office and other law
enforcement agencies will conduct the classes and presentations. You will
learn how criminal cases are handled from intake/grand jury through trial
to appeal. You will hear from the Medical Examiner, see a presentation
from a local narcotics unit, learn how an intoxilyzer (alcohol breath
test instrument) works, visit the Child Advocacy Center, and gain a behind-the-scenes
understanding of real-world prosecution and law enforcement, including
how the District Attorney decides when to seek the death penalty.
Interested? Class size is limited, and the selection
process is intensive, so you are encouraged to apply as soon as you can.
Join this class and be the FIRST to experience the academy in the
NEW COLLIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE. You can find out more about us on
