The 2007 Agriculture Census
Counting sheep or chickens before they hatch makes for
good jokes or homespun advice, but it all becomes quite serious once
every five years. That’s when the Texas Department of Agriculture
conducts its census, the results of which help influence government
policies at the state and national level, as well as shape the long-term
future of American agriculture. Census data impacts the development and
distribution of government services and programs, as well as helps guide
private companies’ decisions as to where to locate their operations.
Questionnaires will be mailed to all local farmers
and ranchers during the last week of December 2007, and must be completed
and returned by February 4, 2008. You also have the option to complete the
questionnaire online. Federal law requires every questionnaire recipient
to respond, even if you did not operate a farm or ranch in 2007.
