Farm Museum Reopens

Farm Museum Reopens! The Farm Museum is now closed for the season, except by appointment only (please contact the North Texas History Center at 972-542-9457).
Look for it reopening next spring!

The tractors, threshing machines and combines have been washed and the exhibits geared up for the fall reopening of The Farm Museum at Myers Park, 7117 CR 166, McKinney, Texas, on Saturday, September 6. Visitors have an opportunity to experience two important exhibits at The Farm Museum: The Harvest: 1920-1940, which tells the story of threshing, and Collections, which showcases many of the agricultural artifacts from the WWII era. The agricultural heritage of our region was changed forever by the new mechanical beasts that took over where oxen, mules, and horses left off.

"A dedicated team of volunteers has worked diligently alongside the curatorial staff to research and relocate many of the items in the collection," says Bryan Lean, North Texas History Center's director and curator of collections. "We have some truly amazing pieces and are excited to be able to share them with the public again."

Since the weather impacts the number of weekends that it is safe and comfortable for visitors and staff to be at the Farm Museum, The North Texas History Center, which manages the venue, plans to have the museum open on Saturday and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. during September and October in 2008. Cleanup work for the fall opening began in mid-August, with a tractor washing facilitated by members of the International Harvesters Club, NTHC staff and several very dedicated volunteers.

"We are very pleased to be announcing the Farm's reopening this fall and are already making plans to open the Farm again next spring when the weather begins to warm," said Sarah Hatcher, education curator for NTHC. "With the help of talented and dedicated volunteers and staff members we are working towards making the Farm Museum a prominent and active part of Myers Park and Collin County."

To schedule group tours, contact Sarah Hatcher at 972.542.9457.

The North Texas History Center, founded as the Collin County Historical Society in 1957, manages The Farm Museum at Myers Park for Collin County in order to preserve and share our North Texas agricultural heritage with present and future generations.
