Voter Registration Deadline Approaching for November Elections

To vote in the Tuesday, November 6, 2007, Special Elections you must register by Tuesday, October 9, 2007.

Eligibility

To be eligible to vote in Texas, you must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen;
  • Be a resident of the county in which you wish to vote;
  • Be 18 years old (you may register at 17 years and 10 months)
  • Not be a convicted felon (unless a person’s sentence is completed, including probation)
  • Not have been declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law.

How To Register

You must be registered to vote at least thirty days prior to an election.

Applications to register to vote can now be downloaded at: http://www.collincountytexas.gov/elections/voter_registration/index.jsp or call the Collin County Elections Office at 972-547-1990 or metro 972-424-1460 Ext 1990 for an application. Voter registration applications are also available at most post offices, libraries and high schools.

If you have registered but don’t have a current voter registration certificate (bright yellow card), please contact the Collin County Elections Office at 972-547-1990 or metro 972-424-1460 Ext. 1990, or log on to the Collin County website at http://www.collincountytexas.gov/elections/voter_registration/index.jsp, download an application and mail it to: 2010 Redbud Blvd. Suite 102, McKinney, TX 75069.

You are only eligible to vote in the precinct where you live, if you have registered in that precinct.

If you were registered to vote but moved from another Texas county to Collin County:

You will need to register with Collin County before being allowed to vote in Collin County by the above deadline. However, registered voters who move from one county to another may be eligible to vote in the new county of residence if you are still registered in your old county of residence at the time of an election, but only to vote on statewide races and any district offices that are in common between the old and new counties (called a Limited Ballot). Call the Elections Office for details. You may only vote a Limited Ballot during the Early Voting Period (October 22 through November 2, 2007).

If you moved from city to city within Collin County:

You will need to change your voter registration before being allowed to vote in your new precinct by the above deadline.

If you moved from one address in a city to another address within the same city:

You will need to change your voter registration before being allowed to vote in your new precinct by the above deadline.

You can now change your name or address by accessing the Texas Secretary of State web address at www.sos.state.tx.us, or by mail or in person.

You can see the County Bond Propositions by logging on to www.collincountytexas.gov and looking under “News and Events”. You can see the sixteen State Constitutional Amendments by logging on to http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/whatisontheballot.shtml under “What is on the Ballot.” Sample ballots for the November 6, 2007 Special Elections and for those entities that contract with us by the middle of October 2007 can be viewed by logging onto http://www.collincountytexas.gov/elections/election_information/index.jsp.
