Sculpture Unveiled at Courthouse Dedication

Colonel William Travis Statue A life-size bronze sculpture of Texas hero Colonel William Travis is in its new home next to the rotunda in the new Collin County Courthouse. The work of art, titled “Colonel Travis—The Line” depicts Colonel Travis drawing a line in the earth with his sword to urge the men at the Alamo to take the ultimate step to live or die for the freedom that they were defending there.

The sculpture has been donated to the county by McKinney lawyer and former District Attorney Bill Boyd. Mr. Boyd has also donated a giclée print of Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in U.S. history and late county native, which hangs in the corridor near the Travis statue. The sculpture is the work of artist James N. Muir.
