Collin County Reports Second Suspected SARS Case; Both Patients Have Recovered
(McKinney, TX) -- Collin County Health Department officials announced today a second confirmed suspected case of SARS in the county. This individual had traveled to Hong Kong, did not require hospitalization and has recovered. This individual has no association with the first suspected case. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of Health, both individuals have recovered. The previously announced potential case of SARS in Collin County did not meet CDC definition as a suspected case, and this person has recovered.
In both suspected cases, the individuals had traveled to the areas of concern listed by the CDC. There is NO documentation of local transmission. Nevertheless, officials are being vigilant in the investigation of potential exposures. It is important to note that physicians and hospitals are legally required to report cases that meet the current case definition of SARS.
The CDC continually updates information regarding SARS. Please consult the
CDC website for updates and guidelines.
