METROPLEX MEDIA ADVISORY
Metroplex leaders to unite against Governor Perry’s proposed tax plan
(Dallas, TX) – Elected officials from Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties will be joined by chamber of commerce, civic and professional leaders to announce their opposition to Governor Rick Perry’s proposed tax plan on Wednesday. They will also ceremonially sign a letter to the governor outlining their position, while emphasizing their unity.
On March 11th, Governor Perry proposed a series of measures he said would give Texans property relief by providing caps on appraisals and the amount of revenue local governments can raise from property taxes. As a result, local government officials in the North Central Texas area have been meeting to discuss their concerns about the measures. While local officials support the governor’s efforts to find a solution to public school financing, they will outline why these measures fail to address the most important issue facing Texas today.
WHO: County judges and commissioners, mayors and council members, school officials, chambers of commerce, civic leaders and elected officials from throughout the Metroplex.
WHERE: 816 S. Akard Street, Dallas (At the fire station, 1.5 blocks from city hall)
WHEN: 12 p.m., Wednesday, April 7
If it rains, the news conference will be held in the Dallas City Hall Flag Room, 1500 Marilla, 6E North.
