Public Works to Focus on Storm Repairs Until Next Year
Collin County Public Works has announced an extension to the previous thirty day suspension of the "50 Miles Per Year Asphalt Program." The program suspension has been extended to 2008 in order to focus on repairs to county roads and infrastructure caused by the recent severe storms. The Public Works survey of road and infrastructure damage from the recent rains has revealed the need for a longer time frame to effect repairs than previously anticipated. Many of the needed repairs will not be completed until the end of this year or even as late as spring of 2008.
The amount of road and bridge repairs from the storms is currently estimated to exceed $2.6 million in road materials for repairs to 372 roads, including 300 miles of rock roads require grading and/or rock replacement, numerous paved road patching and repairs, and culvert repairs and replacements. Additional infrastructure repair estimates are yet to be determined.
The "50 Miles Per Year Asphalt Program" objective is to pave every mile of county road within ten years.
