Collin County Establishes West Nile Information Line
(McKinney, TX) - In an effort to help educate the public and prevent the spread of the West Nile Virus, Collin County has established an information line. Residents are encouraged to use the number to report dead birds, illegal dumpsites and areas of standing, stagnant water where mosquitoes might breed. The number also provides residents with information on current West Nile activity in the county.
So far this year, there have been no reports of the disease in Collin County. Last year was the first year in which the virus was confirmed in the county. According to the Texas Department of Health, there was one human case in the county and no human deaths. Eighteen horses and four Blue Jays are known to have contracted the disease in 2002.
Collin County’s West Nile information number is 972-548-5525. Residents may also obtain statistical and historical information about the virus by visiting the county’s website at www.co.collin.tx.us
