Collin County Commissioners Court appoints Greg Brewer to County-Court-at-Law #5
(McKinney, TX) – The Collin County Commissioners Court appointed McKinney
attorney Greg Brewer to the vacant County-Court-at-Law #5 judgeship today.
“When I got into the legal profession, my ultimate goal was to become a judge,”
says Brewer, who is currently an attorney with Gore & Brewer, P.C. “I’m
thankful to the Commissioners Court for putting trust in me for this position.”
More than a dozen attorneys applied for the judgeship. The Collin County Bar
Association met with each applicant and made recommendations to the Commissioners
Court, which interviewed four applicants today.
“I think Greg’s background with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office
and law firms in Collin County make him a good fit for this judgeship,” says
Collin County Commissioner Jack Hatchell. “His decisions will be balanced.”
“We had an outstanding selection of applicants,” says Collin County Commissioner
Phyllis Cole. “Decisions like these aren’t easy, but we are confident in Greg’s
abilities. He will be a fair and impartial jurist.”
“I’d like to thank the Collin County Bar Association for there their time,
effort and expertise,” says Collin County Commissioner Joe Jaynes. “They helped
provide us with a process that allowed us to reviewed the best qualified applications.”
“We had four highly qualified candidates,” says Collin County Commissioner
Jerry Hoagland. “We would have preferred to wait on the election instead of
making this decision, but I’m confident that the residents of Collin County
will be happy with this decision.”
“This process reflects that there is a very qualified pool of applicants for
future judicial selections,” says Collin County Judge Ron Harris. “Greg’s
demeanor and approach is what I look for in a judge.”
The judgeship opened when Judge Chris Oldner was appointed by Governor Rick
Perry to the new 416th District Court last month. Brewer will serve until
at least November 2004 and plans to run for election next year.
Brewer, 40, is married with three small children.
