Collin County Health Care Services receives flu vaccination shipment from the state; infant and children’s vaccination clinic to open Monday

(McKinney, TX) – Collin County Health Care Services has received 1,800 doses of infant and children’s influenza vaccine from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

This vaccine is specifically earmarked by the state for infants between the ages of six months thru 23 months and for children between the ages of two years thru 18 years with chronic medical conditions.

A flu vaccination clinic will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 25th at the county health department, 825 N. McDonald Street in McKinney. The clinic hours are from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. daily.

The cost of the vaccine is based on a sliding scale fee, but the amount will not exceed $14 per dose. Cash and checks will be accepted. Medicaid and Chip will also be accepted.

Collin County health officials believe there will be enough vaccine to serve this at-risk population for at least several days or even weeks.

The only additional vaccine obtained by the county is a critically low amount previously set aside for at-risk indigent persons. Collin County Health Care Services exhausted the remainder of the supply by administering 2,000 doses in a clinic on Monday.

The only flu vaccination clinic currently available by Collin County Health Care Services is for infants and chronically ill children.

County residents seeking information about vaccination supplies can visit the county website, www.collincountytx.gov. For those who are unable to access the internet, information is available on the health department’s message line at 972-548-5525.
