Collin County to observe national GIS Day

(McKinney, TX) – Collin County will observe national GIS Day by providing educational material and displays in the main courthouse on Wednesday, November 17th.

GIS Day is a grassroots event that showcases the practice of geographic information systems (GIS) users and vendors by opening their doors to help educate the public about the profession.

“There are many misconceptions about GIS,” says Collin County GIS Administrator Tim Nolan. “It’s capable of much more than mapping. We help provide demographic and geographic data, 9-1-1 addressing, information for court cases, assist with redistricting and thoroughfare planning and much more. Our vision is to utilize GIS in all location-based projects.”

The public is invited to view GIS resources from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Wednesday at 210 South McDonald Street in McKinney.
