Collin County Health Care Services may temporarily deplete flu vaccine supply; issue appears unrelated to Chiron

(McKinney, TX) -- Collin County Health Care Services does not order vaccine from Chiron, Corporation but may temporarily deplete its flu vaccine by the end of today. The county is between shipments and is expecting more soon.

In March, Collin County preordered more than 9,000 doses from Aventis Pasteur and later ordered 2,000 children’s doses from the Texas Department of State Health Services. Last year, Collin County gave approximately 5,000 influenza vaccinations and nearly doubled the order this year.

Although the county health department received one shipment of vaccine from Aventis last month, it has yet to receive the second shipment. An Aventis representative did assure county health officials that another shipment is expected at any time.

Additionally, the county has not received its vaccine from the Texas Department of State Health Services. This vaccine is administered to infants and children.
