Medical Examiner statement regarding the death of Edgar Vera

(McKinney, TX) -- There has been great public interest in the death of EDGAR VERA, a 45 year old male, who died August 19, 2005 after an attempted arrest by law enforcement on August 4, 2005. Therefore, this NEWS RELEASE is issued electronically and simultaneously to media with potential interest in his death.

On the death certificate the CAUSE OF DEATH is listed as “Anoxic encephalopathy due to positional asphyxia during struggle."

HOW INJURY OCCURRED is described on the death certificate as “Face down with pressure on back of body while struggling during attempted arrest by law enforcement." This caused a cardio-pulmonary arrest.

MANNER OF DEATH is “Homicide” and is classified as such since death occurred as the result of a struggle. This does not necessarily mean there was any criminal activity involved in Mr. Vera’s death.
