Collin County Youth Show Kicks Off

(McKinney, TX) – The Collin Youth Show begins Tuesday, January 11 at Myers Park & Event Center. The annual Collin County Youth Show highlights the hard work of youth who reside, attend a public or private school or are home schooled in Collin County. Students must be at least eight years of age or in the 3rd grade and a member of a FFA, Jr. FFA or 4-H Club in Collin County.

The annual show includes livestock, creative arts, shop and horticulture with awards given in the following categories:

Breeding Cattle Steers Market Swine Breeding Sheep
Market Sheep Market Goats Breeding Goats Rabbit Fryers
Breeding Rabbits Poultry Broilers Breeding Poultry Shop Projects
Horticulture Herdsman Creative Arts Crafts & Sewing
Menu Planning Table Setting Foods  

Hundreds of students representing 14 schools and/or youth programs will be present along with parents, sponsors, teachers and community supporters interested in bidding on these projects. Sale proceeds are returned to the students for future educational endeavors. Represented are students from:

The 2006 edition of the County Youth Show is dedicated to the agricultural science teachers in the schools of Collin County, particularly Gary Allen, David Arnold, Bob Bean, Tom Ewing, Hugh Gibson, John Hartley, George May and Bud Weston. These committed individuals have had a profound impact on the lives of their students.

1:00-10:00 pm Entries accepted in livestock divisions
4:30-6:00 pm Entries accepted in arts & crafts, sewing and table setting divisions
 
Wednesday, January 11
8:00 am Poultry arrives
Market swine weigh-in and classification
Entries accepted in table setting and arts and crafts
9:00 am Goat followed by sheep weigh-in
Horticulture entries accepted
10:00 am Judging of home economics, arts & crafts entries (closed to public)
All livestock entries in place
Poultry judging
11:00 am Steer followed by commercial heifers weigh-in (heifer papers checked)
11:30 am Horticulture judging
2:00 pm Goat judging
2:30-8:00 pm Home Economics exhibits open to public
 
Thursday, January 12
7:30-8:00 am Breeding rabbits arrive and check-in
8:00-10:00 am Food entries accepted
8:30 am Fryers weigh-in and judging followed by breeding show
9:00 am Sheep judging (breeding sheep, followed by market sheep)
Shop projects in place
10:00 am Food judging (closed to public)
2:00 pm Market swine judging
Creative arts exhibits open to public
Sale of food show items
2:30-5:00 pm Food pick-up for all items not for sale
 
Friday, January 13
8:00 am-4:00 pm Home economics exhibit open to public
9:00 am Shop project judging
10:00 am Beef heifer judging (Beef Master, Brahman, Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, Simbrah, other American breeds, Angus, Hereford, Red Angus, Polled Hereford, Shorthorn, Charlois, Limousin, Maine-Anjou, Simmental, other registered breeds & commercial heifers)
4:00-6:00 pm Home economics projects picked-up
5:00 pm Steer judging (American, English, exotic)
 
Saturday, January 14
11:00am-12:30 pm Bar-B-Q Lunch ($6.00 per person)
12:00 pm Special presentation – Myers Park Dedication and Re-naming Ceremony
12:30 pm Special Awards Presentation
1:00 pm Premium Auction Begins
