Collin County burn ban to be extended; certain grilling to be permitted
(McKinney, TX) –Collin County is planning to extend a burn ban for an additional 90 days or until conditions change to allow it to be lifted. The county originally initiated a burn ban on June 24, 2005. The ban was due to expire on March 19th; however low humidity, a lack of rainfall and winds have prompted officials to continue precautionary measures. The Collin County Commissioners Court is expected to formalize the extension tomorrow.
The Disaster Declaration and Executive Order was also due to expire, however Collin County Judge Ron Harris will be extending the Disaster Declaration and the Executive Order -- the only difference will be in the Executive Order. The restriction on the use of barbeque grills (charcoal and wood burning types) will be lifted effective on the 19th. Gas grilling is already permitted. The requirement to obtain a Hot Work Permit stays and the Order will also prohibit the discharge of fireworks and other combustible materials in an outdoor environment.
Collin County residents who live in incorporated areas are asked to check with their individual cities regarding grilling requirements because executive orders may vary slightly.
Collin County is continuing to contend with grass fires. County, volunteer and city fire agencies are working together for early detection, quick response and multi-agency response.
