Severe weather causes damage and injuries in the Anna and Westminster area
(McKinney, TX) – At least one tornado led to the deaths of three persons, the hospitalization of 10 persons, and minor injury to others. Collin County opened its Emergency Operation Center late last night following reports of severe weather in the Anna and Westminster area of Collin County that resulted in damaged homes and injuries. There was a confirmed touchdown of a tornado north of Anna.
The American Red Cross opened a shelter at Anna High School with one hundred beds for residents who needed triage or shelter for the night.
According to the Grayson-Collin Electric Coop, action is underway to restore electricity to affected homes.
Numerous agencies assisted in the response to this event including neighboring cities, Grayson County, the American Red Cross, volunteer fire departments, Texas Department of Public Safety, and American Medical Response.
