Collin County celebrates National Public Works Week
(McKinney, TX) – The Collin County Public Works Department will celebrate National Public Works Week, May 21-27, 2006, with an open house scheduled for Friday, May 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the second consecutive year that the county has planned events in honor of the week.
“We want our residents to know exactly what this department does on a daily basis and in the event of emergencies,” says Collin County Commissioner Joe Jaynes, Precinct 3. “Public Works is not just about building roads. Department employees help keep our roadways safe by moving debris following disasters. They also encourage recycling, conduct educational programs and support emergency services.”
The open house will offer residents the opportunity to view exciting exhibits and demonstrations relating to public works activities and meet their dedicated public works professionals. Free food, beverages and music will be offered.
“We encourage residents and students to learn more about our profession,” says Public Works Director Jon Kleinheksel. “Many people may not be aware of all that we do, so we hope that this open house will give them a greater understanding of the role that public works plays in their everyday lives.”
The open house will be held at the Collin County Service Center, 700-A Wilmeth Road in McKinney. For additional information, please call Jeannine Langley at 972-548-3700.
