Eight non-profit organizations to share $210,000 in grant funding from the Collin County Health Care Foundation
(McKinney, TX) – Eight non-profit organizations will share
$210,000 of grant funds provided by the Collin County Health Care Foundation.
In a 4-1 vote, the Collin County Commissioners Court approved the funding earlier
today.
Funds were provided to organizations that address one or more of the following
categories:
Address the health and well-being of the citizens;
Promote volunteer participation and citizen involvement in the project;
Target at-risk, underserved or vulnerable populations;
Demonstrate new approaches and techniques in the solution of community problems;
Show that matching funds (cash or in-kind) have or are being secured;
Demonstrate that services proposed are provided in a cost effective manner;
and
Demonstrate that applicant has a sound business plan for project/program
sustainability
Utilize county grant funding only for citizens and legal residents of Collin
County.
The following organizations were selected by the Collin County
Health Care Foundation Advisory Board and approved by the Commissioners Court
to receive grant funding this year:
1. Plano Children’s Medical Clinic - $45,000
Mission – “provide medical care to children in Collin County who have no
insurance or who are on Medicaid or CHIP.”
2. Collin County Committee on Aging - $35,000
Mission – “provides nutrition to improve the independence and health of
senior citizens, education for their caregivers and to combat isolation through
a reliable transit system for all citizens.”
3. The Assistance Center of Collin County, Allen Community
Outreach, The Community Lifeline Center of McKinney and Frisco Family Services
Center - $25,000
Mission- “The Joint County Prescription program will reduce the critical
lack of medications needed by low-income, at risk, vulnerable and underserved
residents of Collin County.”
The project is a continuation of a collaboration of four social service
agencies in the county to provide prescription assistance.
4. Frisco Cares Children’s Clinic - $15,000
Mission – “provide competent, accessible and compassionate care health care
to the children of Frisco and Frisco ISD regardless of the ability to pay.”
5. Journey Home - $20,000
Mission - “provides quality end of life care through licensed special care
residential homes and provides comfort care and palliative education to Collin
County.”
6. Geriatric Wellness Center of Collin County - $30,000
Mission – “promote the health and wellness of older adults in Collin County
to enable them to meet their health needs (accessibility, cost and safety)
while remaining independent in their own homes.”
7. Children and Community Health Center - $25,000
Mission – “provide free healthcare to uninsured residents of North Collin
County that meet family or individual income requirements.”
8. Collin County Adult Clinic - $15,000
Mission – “provides limited healthcare and medications to adult residents
of Collin County without medical insurance…”
This is the fourth year in which the county has granted funds for non-profit
organizations’ facilities and outreach programs. Each year the amount of funding
has steadily increased. Last year, nine programs shared in $194,000 in grant.
