Bob Hughes appointed Collin County CSCD Director

(McKinney, TX) – The district and county court-at-law judges of Collin County appointed Bob Hughes, an assistant director for the Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD), as the new department director during a meeting this morning. Dr. Melissa Cahill, current Director of the CSCD, has resigned to take a position with the U.S. Probation Service in St. Louis, Missouri.

"Mr. Hughes has risen up through the ranks of the department, from probation officer to assistant director. He is well known to the employees and staff of the department, and he is ready to hit the ground running,” says District Judge Curt Henderson. “The judges unanimously agreed that Bob is the best person for the job. We are excited about working with him in the years to come."

"I am thrilled that the judges chose to appoint Mr. Hughes," Dr. Cahill says. "He has been an integral part of the positive changes that have occurred over the past two years. I am confident that his leadership will result in Collin County CSCD continuing to be a department on the cutting edge, one that is respected throughout the state and nation.”

Mr. Hughes has been with the Collin County CSCD since 1992. He was promoted to an assistant director position in September 2005 and had been responsible for overseeing the operations of the McKinney office. He will assume office on August 14th.

“Dr. Cahill implemented several new initiatives over the past two years that have improved our ability to serve the community and the judiciary. One initiative is case load reduction which has provided officers the time needed to work with offenders or take swift action if violations occur. Another improvement has been an upgrade in computer software which frees up valuable time that can be spent doing quality casework.”

“I have no illusions that this is a one-person job. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in the staff. Together, we will continue our commitment to serving the community and the judiciary,” says Mr. Hughes.
