Collin County lifts burn ban
(McKinney, TX) – Because of the recent rainfall, Collin County has lifted its 126-day burn ban and disaster declaration. Residents in unincorporated areas and the county jurisdiction may now obtain a permit to conduct outdoor burning; and residents are reminded that they can only burn vegetation natural to their property. Residents must obtain a permit for any type of burn activity except for cooking, warmth or celebration.
Residents are also encouraged to call the outdoor burn information line, 972-548-4799, prior to burning to determine if it is a burn day. Depending on wind and other factors, burning may be prohibited on certain days. Additionally, burning is only permitted during daylight hours.
“Although the drought index has dropped to a level that is relatively conducive to burning, Collin County is still in a drought as far as measurable rainfall and the lake level is concerned,” says Collin County Fire Marshal Steve Deffibaugh. “We still need to conserve water.”
Lifting of the burn ban was recommended by the fire marshal today and approved by Collin County Judge Ron Harris.
A previous burn ban was implemented on June 23, 2005 and lasted 270 days. The most recent burn ban went into effect on June 13, 2006.
