District Attorney to seek death penalty in Plano murder case

(McKINNEY, TX) -- Collin County District Attorney John Roach decided today to seek the death penalty in the capital murder case against Curtis Lee Armstrong for the killing of his former wife, Jennifer McCallum, last month in Plano.

Mrs. McCallum's body was found on May 12 in a wooded highway median in Freestone County. She had been missing for nine days. Mr. Armstrong, 37, was indicted by a Collin County grand jury on June 7.

"The decision to seek the death penalty in a capital murder case is not to be taken lightly," Mr. Roach said. "After considering all of the facts available, and the recommendations of my staff, I have concluded that the death penalty would be an appropriate punishment if Mr. Armstrong is convicted of the capital murder of Mrs. McCallum."

The grand jury indictment alleges that Mr. Armstrong killed his former wife by stabbing and beating her to death during the course of a burglary and robbery at her Plano apartment on May 3. The case has been assigned to the 199th Judicial District Court in Collin County. No trial date has been set.
