Collin County Issues Local Disaster Declaration

Collin County has issued a local disaster declaration as a follow-up to President Bush's federal disaster declaration and Governor Perry's state disaster declaration, both dated June 29, 2007, addressing the extreme rainfall across Texas since May 23rd.

"We are issuing this declaration in order to put Collin County and all of our municipalities in a position to qualify and apply for federal emergency assistance," states Collin County Judge Keith Self. "Our county's infrastructure has suffered from these recent storms, and it is simply prudent to seek all available assistance with the repair costs that we have already incurred and will continue to incur."

A comprehensive damage assessment will be developed by county and city staffs, in conjunction with state emergency management personnel. County Public Works is currently identifying and repairing rain and flood damage to county roadways and, with the assistance of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, is inspecting and monitoring selected county dams hardest hit by the storms.

The county disaster declaration and supporting documentation should be ratified by the Collin County Commissioners Court and submitted to the state within the next week.

Go to the Collin County web site (www.collincountytx.gov) for a copy of the county declaration.
