WHAT RECORDS ARE STORED IN THE COUNTY RECORDS CENTER?
Public records created or received by various county departments are maintained
in compliance with Texas mandates governing the retention, disposition,
utilization, and preservation of these records.
HOW CAN THESE RECORDS BE REFERENCED?
Records Center staff has the capability to respond to reference requests
via telephone (972-548-5560 or metro 972-424-1460 ext. 5565), fax machine
972-548-5567, mail courier service for County personnel, email at the
address on the Records web page, and personal visitation to the Records
Center. You must have box/location number and file folder title or case
number or Deed or other Record book and page number. Records Center staff
cannot access any records without correct reference. Approval from the
appropriate records custodian (appropriate County Department) must be
received before records can be reviewed by the public. Please contact
the appropriate County department for the required reference/location
information before contacting the Records Center.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RETRIEVE A RECORD?
The goal of the Records Center is to have the requested documents delivered
to the requesting department within one county business day. Public walk-in
customers are assisted as quickly as possible. A response to an Open Records
Request is provided within 10 business days.
WHAT MATERIALS AT THE RECORDS CENTER ARE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL
PUBLIC?
Once you have obtained the indexing information from the appropriate county
department, the Records Center staff can pull and copy the appropriate
reference book for you. You must go to the County Clerk or Tax offices
first to obtain the necessary reference information. The Records Center
does not have copies of the various indices. The fee for copying a County
Clerk record is $1.00 per page and will be collected for all copies of
County Clerk records copied by the Records Center for the general public.
