Prevention
CCSAP is active in the community at the grassroots level. Our
goal is to stop alcohol and drug use before it begins. We speak to kids in the
classroom and to parents in the community about the dangers of addiction through
a coalition of concerned community leaders. We conduct single-session assessments
with adolescents who have been identified as being at risk. We work closely with
Collin County schools, the Teen Court, and the Juvenile Probation Department to
link children in need with area treatment providers. The substance abuse assessment
takes about an hour and a half and it consists of a one-on-one structured interview
with the parent(s) and the child individually and together. Standardized questionnaires
are used to determine the extent/level of the students’ involvement with alcohol/drugs.
Then, at the end of the evaluation, the licensed counselor advises the parents on what
steps to take to best help their child and the family.
Intervention
CCSAP helps people with identified substance abuse issues
to face the problem and to get help. Adult assessment cost $20.00 and
last from 30 minutes to an hour. CCSAP will provide assessments for any
individual who is a resident of Collin County, but the majority of adult
assessments are for people who have been convicted of an offense that
involve alcohol (DWI) or drug possession. Walk-in and call-in referral
services are also provided. If you or a loved one are in a crisis and
need assistance, feel free to call or come in to the office and you will
be seen on a first-come first-served basis. Employees of Collin County
can also receive free and confidential referral service.
Because of the ever-present demand, CCSAP requires set
appointments. Please call the office to make an appointment.
Treatment
Group counseling conducted for students attending area
alternative schools by a licensed CCSAP staff member is provided on a
limited basis. Due to the current small staff size, no additional counseling
service is provided.
Resource Library
The CCSAP library contains alcohol and drug-related
information on a variety of topics. Books, pamphlets, video tapes, and
DVD's can be checked out for two weeks to anyone in the county.
Speakers Bureau
The CCSAP program director is available to speak to
community groups about alcohol, drugs and related issues, free of charge.
