Company gives 'teddy bears' to Constables in Pct. 1

Sometimes, a teddy bear can help a bad day go a little better.

In mid-January, employees of Texas Industrial Electrical Supply in McKinney presented Constable Shane Williams, Precinct 1, with about 150 teddy bears for Constables to hand out to children they come across while carrying out their duties.

“On a daily basis -- with evictions and child custody issues --  we run across a lot of young kids who are  having a very rough day,” explained Constable Williams. “We’re hoping the teddy bears will help take some of their stress away.”

Precinct 1 Constables frequently carry out a couple dozen court-ordered evictions each month, and occasionally are called on to enforce child custody writs from the court system. Unfortunately, both scenarios inevitably involve young kids dealing with very drastic life changes.

Workers at Texas Industrial had just finished up a toy drive for local charities when they got word that the constables could use some cuddly plush toys to give to frightened kids, and contacted the Constable.

“We’re very thankful they thought of our office and really appreciate what these folks did to help ease what some of these kids are going through,” Constable Williams said.
