Operation Red Smith: feeding our vets this holiday

The Military Heritage Collection of North Texas is celebrating Christmas in a special way this year. The museum, located in Lucas, Texas, has purchased over 100,000 lbs. of food from GSA and FEMA.

Beginning Monday, December 18th, MHCNT will distribute 50,400 meals to military veterans, veterans' families, and organizations that assist veterans. The food will be packaged in boxes of 12 meals each. Organizations will received palleted quantities of the boxes, while individuals will receive individual boxes. The museum plans to have all meals distributed before Christmas.

Any veteran, veteran's family, and organization helping veterans may receive meals.

Here's how anyone can help: if you are or know of veterans or organizations who qualify to receive meals, contact the museum at (214) 794-8992, or on their web site. And spread the word!

This holiday project is named in honor of Red Smith, a Vietnam vet, Bronze Star recipient and friend of the museum, who tragically died in an accident a month ago. Thank you Red, and all veterans, for your service. And Merry Christmas to all!
