Sheriff’s Office warns residents about fake warrant calls

(McKINNEY, Texas) – Collin County residents are being called by people claiming to be Sheriff’s Deputies, telling their victims that they have a warrant for their arrest for missing Jury Duty and will be fined a considerable amount of money if the Deputies have to come pick them up.

The victims are then offered an opportunity to settle the charges for a lot less money if they will provide a debit card or other means of paying the fine.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to know that their deputies do not call people to collect fines, and advise anyone who has been contacted in such a manner to call their local police department.

The Sheriff’s Office is not currently working any cases involving these type calls, but has referred several victims to their respective police departments.

As a side note: Residents can check our Active Warrants search page, which holds thousands of warrants on file from law en forcement agencies across Collin County. The database is updated regularly, searchable by name, and includes case numbers and fine or bond amounts.
