First Saturday Citizen Trash Drop-Off Day

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Beginning October 1, 2017, due to a change in policy, the dumping of roofing shingles will no longer be free of charge. Anyone disposing of shingles will be required to pay a $150 surcharge, and also be charged according to the weight of the shingles. This policy change is to mitigate the impact of shingles not being biodegradable.

Due to TxDoT construction of State Highway 121 around the North Texas Municipal Water District's 121 RDF landfill in Melissa, Public Works is suspending the monthly First Saturday Citizen Trash Drop-Off Day beginning August 2018. Please check this website for future updates. We apologize for any inconvenience. The landfill will still accept trash from citizens willing to pay. For rate information, visit the NTMWD website.

Collin County has contracted with the North Texas Municipal Water District's landfill in Melissa to conduct free once-a-month clean-up days for Collin County residents to dispose their trash. Besides eligible trash (see below) the clean-up days offer recycling services for plastics, paper, aluminum, and glass. Tires will also be accepted.

These free trash days are held at one central location conveniently positioned just inside the landfill entrance located at 3820 State Highway 121 N in Melissa. They are on the first Saturday of the month (holidays excepted) from 8 am until 2 pm. During these one-day events Collin County will pick up the disposal cost for residents' trash, but proof of residency, such as a driver's license or utility bill, will be required.
