For Immediate Release: Collin County Sheriff's Office Cancels Participation in 2020 National Night Out Events
In the interest of our residents' health and safety, we have decided to cancel our participation in the 2020 National Night Out event.
The decision to cancel this year's event involved much consideration and was not taken lightly. The last thing we would want is to gather large crowds together where people share food, games, bounce houses, etc.
We understand that this decision may disappoint some of our community partners and citizens. We are equally disappointed; however, when weighing the circumstances we are faced with; we believe that the best decision is to cancel our participation in this event.
Furthermore, a successful National Night Out event takes months of planning and coordination. Meetings have been difficult to schedule due to COVID-19, but more importantly, our local business partners have faced closings, restrictions, and other financial strains during the pandemic.
Our National Night Out celebrations are partially funded on sponsorships and donations that are received from local businesses and it is their support that makes National Night Out an enjoyable occasion. Due to the hardships these businesses endured, we do not feel it is appropriate to seek sponsorships or donations from our partners who have historically been so generous.
We hope our residents understand these considerations and respect our decision to cancel this year's event. We'll just have to make sure our 2021 event is better than ever! The Collin County Sheriff's Office values our strong bond with our community members and looks forward to hosting this event next year.
