Volunteer Deputy Registrar

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Volunteer Deputy Registrars are entrusted with the responsibility of officially registering voters in the State of Texas. They are appointed by county voter registrars and charged with helping increase voter registration in the state.

Eligibility of a Volunteer Deputy Registrar

  • 18 years of age or older;
  • be a United States Citizen;
  • not have been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: 1) totally mentally incapacitated, or 2) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
  • never have been convicted of failing to deliver a voter application to a voter registrar;
  • not have been finally convicted of a felony, or if convicted, must have 1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or 2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote;
  • Not have been finally convicted of identity theft under Section 32.51 of the Texas Penal code
  • Be a Texas resident.

Process

Contact the Voter Registration Department during the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to make an appointment for a brief training and to fill out an Application and Certificate of Appointment to become deputized. You will receive some voter registration applications and information to take with you. The whole process generally takes about 15 minutes.

Are you currently deputized in another Texas county? If so, you will not need to undergo additional training in Collin County. You will only need to provide your current Certificate of Appointment and complete the necessary paperwork to be certified in Collin County. Contact the Voter Registration Department to request an appointment.

Getting registered for the next VDR training lab

To register for the next VDR training lab:

  1. Complete and submit this Google registration form to register for the training lab. NOTE: The registration form will close the day of the lab.
  2. After the Google registration form has been processed by the Elections Department, you will receive an email confirmation with a WebEx meeting link.
  3. On the day of the scheduled training lab log in to the virtual training lab using the WebEx meeting link provided.
  4. After attending the virtual training lab a Certificate of Appointment and an Application for Appointment will be mailed to the mailing address provided on the Google registration form. Complete these forms and return them by mail or hand-delivery to:

  5. After the Certificate of Appointment and Application for Appointment have been processed, the following items will be issued to the applicant:
    • Certificate of Appointment card
    • Copy of the VDR training (PowerPoint)
    • Collin County VDR Guide
    • Collin County VDR Reminders page
    • Voter Registration Applications to be used the appointment
