Military Discharge

​Military discharge records (DD214) can only be filed in the McKinney location. Certified copies may be obtained from the McKinney and Plano locations to qualified applicants.

Texas Local Government Code, Section 192.002 authorizes the County Clerk to file a military discharge at no cost.

  • § 192.002. Military Discharge Records
  • (a) The county clerk shall record the official members of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Armed Forces Reserve, or an Armed Forces Auxiliary.
  • (b) The county clerk may not charge a fee for the recording and keeping of a military discharge record.

By filing the military discharge form, a permanent record is maintained for future proof of service for veterans' benefits. The original is returned to the owner after recording. Military records are confidential and can only be released to a qualified applicant. ​​​​​
