S.C.O.R.E. Mission Statement

The mission of the SCORE Program and its personnel is:

1. To equip offenders with cognitive tools and decision making strategies in order to combat errors in thinking.
2. To facilitate positive behavior change through education, pro-social modeling and accountability.
1. To deter criminal behavior through the administration of sanctions.
3. To motivate participants to exhibit positive behaviors by assisting in re-establishing control of their lives.

Our philosophy is that offenders should be held strictly responsible and accountable for their actions, while being provided alternative resources for positive and pro-social behavioral change.

Criminal History

CURRENT history required for pre-approval. Offenders with assaultive crimes are considered for placement on a case-by-case basis.

Physically and Mentally Sound

Offenders with physical and mental limitations are considered for placement on a case-by-case basis.

Reason for Placement in Program

Defendants may be ordered into the program as an initial condition of supervision, amended into the program as a sanction, volunteer to be placed in the program for cognitive/substance abuse assistance or as a result of a probation revocation.

Phase Two - Aftercare (up to 1 year):

Defendants are required to attend a weekly one hour group meeting with other SCORE Alumni to address relapse prevention, combating errors in thinking and the overall recovery process. Defendant will remain on the SCORE caseload and report 2 times per month and will be required to attend at least 2-12 step meetings per week.

S.A.F.P.F. is an intensive six to nine month therapeutic community program in a prison setting. It is for offenders who are sentenced by judges as a condition of community supervision or as a modification of community supervision.

The program consists of three phases:

• Phase I: Comprehensive assessment and orientation of the therapeutic community
• Phase II: Main treatment, which includes cognitive-based education, skills training, offender lifestyle confrontation, family dynamics, and peer support groups
• Phase III: Re-entry, which is the education of offenders in the development of social skills and the recognition of triggers of relapse

Offenders are assessed for substance or alcohol use/abuse, and, based on that assessment may be referred to peer support groups such as AA/NA or Secular Organization for Sobriety (SOS), facilitated by community volunteers. Community volunteers may also provide assistance in the transition to community-based support groups.

Upon completion of the SAFPF program, offenders are placed in halfway houses for three months, followed by outpatient treatment for up to twelve additional months. The aftercare phase administers a diverse range of therapeutic, residential, outpatient, and resource programs.

Many offenders are required by the Court to perform community service as a condition of supervision. This allows offenders to "give back" to the community and model prosocial behavior. These hours must be worked at non-profit agencies approved by Collin County CSCD. Additionally, the community service assignment must be pre-approved by your supervision officer prior to the commencement of the community service work. This is due, in part, because some agencies have specific requirements related to the performance of community service work (i.e.,age, gender, education, skills, nature of offense). Your supervision officer will have that information available for you. There are a few assignments which may be performed without pre-approval, for any probationer age 18 or older. Those assignments are noted below.

The type of agencies available for completing community service work vary and include things like animal shelters, food pantries, local government departments, substance abuse treatment centers, resale shops, homeless and protective shelters, etc.

If you have been required to complete community service work unrelated to adult probation or CSCD, please consult the court or agency, which required it, for instructions. If they direct you to this department for community service ideas you may use either of the agencies above if you are at least 18 years of age.If you are younger, please call the community service Coordinator.

The purpose of the Treatment Alternative to Incarceration Program (TAIP) is to provide offenders with screening, evaluation, referral, and placement into a licensed and approved chemical dependency program when appropriate. The TAIP is to serve as a linkage between community-based chemical dependency treatment systems and the criminal justice system in order to serve the chemically dependent offender population more efficiently. Without this program, many defendants would be unable to obtain necessary services. In Collin County, only limited programs exist for indigent offenders, and TAIP allows our department to appropriately serve many of those in need.

Defendants meeting the statutory and grant condition eligibility criteria are screened and assessed to determine the level of need, if any, for substance abuse intervention. Then, based on a defendant's inability to pay for the costs of treatment (indigent status), TAIP funds may be used to pay the cost of treatment.

T.A.I.P. provides the following for indigent offenders with significant substance abuse:

• Referrals for substance abuse treatment which includes:

• Intensive residential treatment
• Residential treatment
• Outpatient substance abuse counseling and treatment

The Victim Impact Panel is based on the belief that drunk drivers and potential drunk drivers need to be educated on alcohol-related offenses from the victims' perspectives.

Panels of three to four victims speak briefly about drunk driving crashes in which they were injured or in which a loved one was injured or killed. They convey to offenders the devastating impacts these offenses have had on their lives.

The residential substance abuse treatment program serves indigent offenders in need of residential substance abuse treatment. Offenders must be court ordered to receive services.

The program lasts approximately 90 days.

• Medical detoxification
• In depth medical examination
• Addictive disease education
• Life skills education
• Academic and employment training
• Counseling

Upon release from the program, continuing care is provided and monitored by the treatment facilities and the CSCD supervision officers.
