Collin County Elections Administrator Bruce Sherbet has announced his retirement, effective December 31, 2024, concluding a distinguished 44-year career in elections administration. Sherbet, who has served as Elections Administrator for Collin County since 2015, leaves a legacy of dedication to electoral integrity, community service, and leadership in Texas elections.
Reflecting on his tenure, Sherbet expressed gratitude for his time with Collin County and his commitment to public service. “Serving the people of Collin County has been an incredible honor and privilege. Over the past nine years, I have been fortunate to work alongside a team of outstanding professionals and interact with countless engaged citizens. Together, we have navigated the growth of our county and ensured the integrity of our elections,” Sherbet said.
Sherbet’s career in elections began in 1980 as a Voter Registration Supervisor. After that, he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the Elections Administrator for Dallas County, a role he held from 1987 to 2011. His career later led him to Ellis County and Collin County, where he has overseen substantial growth and changes in the region's elections infrastructure. In addition to his work at the county level, Sherbet has made significant contributions nationally as a course developer and instructor for the National Association of Election Officials.
Sherbet’s contributions have been recognized by his peers through various leadership roles. He has served as President of the Texas Association of Election Administrators, chaired its Legislative Committee, and presented courses for the National Election Center and the Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Programs. He holds the prestigious Certified Election/Registration Administrator (CERA) credential and has been active in professional associations that advocate for election standards and public trust.
Collin County Administrator Yoon Kim expressed his thoughts on Bruce’s retirement, saying, “It has been a pleasure to work alongside Bruce and get to know him. Bruce is an exceptional Elections Administrator, and Collin County will deeply miss his leadership, experience, and invaluable institutional knowledge.”
Sherbet expressed gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career, particularly from the Collin County Commissioners Court. “The support from the Commissioners Court has been invaluable throughout my tenure, and I am grateful for the trust that has been placed in me to carry out the responsibilities of this important office. Their commitment to serving the people of Collin County has been a constant source of inspiration,” he added.
As Sherbet prepares for retirement, he leaves the Elections Department poised for continued success. “I am confident in the strength of the Elections Department and the team here that will continue to serve our residents at the highest level. The foundation we have built will carry forward our mission of ensuring election integrity and protecting the right to vote for all eligible citizens,” he said.
