Collin County is welcoming Dwayne Kurtz as the newly elected constable for Precinct 2, following the retirement of longtime public servant Gary Edwards. Edwards retired in December after an extraordinary 49-year career, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and leadership.
Dwayne Kurtz steps into this role with an impressive 38 years of law enforcement experience, spanning Dallas and Collin counties. A proud Texan, Kurtz was born and raised in the Lone Star State and moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth area at 21 to begin his law enforcement career. Over the past nine years, he has called Collin County home and is now set to serve the community as its constable.
Kurtz’s career reflects a deep commitment to public safety and a diverse range of expertise. He has held numerous leadership positions, including Chief Deputy, Lieutenant, SWAT Commander, and Sergeant. His work has encompassed critical roles in covert operations, highway drug interdiction, high-risk warrant service, and dignitary security. He has also collaborated with federal, state, and local agencies, serving on task forces for organized crime, narcotics, and fugitive apprehension. Notably, Kurtz developed a specialized Mental Illness Team to improve interactions with individuals in crisis.
In addition to his extensive field experience, Kurtz holds a range of advanced certifications, including Master Peace Officer, Mental Health Unit Certification, and Constable Leadership Certification. He is a graduate of the East Texas Police Academy and completed leadership training at Camp Pendleton (CA). His specialized training in narcotics interdiction, firearms instruction, and clandestine lab operations underscores his commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
As Constable Kurtz begins his new role, he brings a wealth of experience and a forward-looking vision for serving the residents of Precinct 2. His dedication and expertise will undoubtedly build upon the strong foundation established by his predecessor.
The Precinct 2 Constable's Office is located at the Sub-Courthouse Lavon office, situated at 1025 S. State Highway 78, Lavon, TX 75166. Office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
