Media Inquiries

Members of the media seeking information, interviews, or press materials should not submit an Open Records Request. Contact the Collin County Government Public Information Officer.

Open Records Overview

The Collin County Constable's Office accepts Open Records Requests in compliance with Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code (Public Information Act). Requests may be submitted online or in writing. We recommend using our online portal for faster processing.

Note: The Public Information Act does not require us to create new records, perform legal research, or answer questions. Requests must seek records that already exist.

Payment Information

Payments are accepted Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Payments will not be accepted after 4:30 PM, on County holidays, or during office closures.

Common Fees

Below are common request types and associated fees:

• Accident Report - $6.00
• Call for Service Report - $3.00
• Body cam Recording - $10.00

Policies Regarding Requesting Open Records

Please review the following before submitting your request:

Submission Requirements

• Requests must be made in writing.
• Requests should ask for existing records only. The Constable's Office is not required to create new records, perform legal research, or answer general questions.
• Requests are processed case-by-case, in the order received, in accordance with the Public Information Act.
• Requests sent to any email address other than the Constable's Office Records Section are not considered received under Government Code Section 552.301(c).

Processing Timeline

• The Constable's Office has 10 business days to release the records or respond to your request.
• You will be notified if:
  • Your records are ready for release
  • Payment is required before release
  • Additional clarification is needed

What to Include in Your Request

Include as much of the following as possible to help us locate your record:

• Report or call number
• Type of report/incident
• Date of incident or report
• Address where incident occurred
• Names of involved parties
• Any other identifying information

A $5.00 search fee applies if the offense number, call number, or jailing date is not provided.

Attorney General Review

If your request requires review by the Texas Attorney General:

• We will forward it for a formal ruling.
• The AG may take up to 90 days to issue a ruling (may be extended).
• Once ruled, we have 15 days to release approved records.

Transparency During Review:

• You will be informed of all correspondence with the Attorney General related to your request.
• The Constable's Office does not decide what may be released; that is determined by the Attorney General based on Texas law.
• All rulings are final and must be followed.

Looking for Court Records?

The Constable's Office does not release court records.

Please contact the appropriate office for court-related documents:

• District Clerk - District Court cases
• County Clerk - County Court at Law cases
• Justice of the Peace - Traffic, small claims, evictions

Judicial records must be requested from the appropriate clerk's office - not the Constable's Office.
