For immediate release:

Wednesday, November 1, 2023, Collin County Deputy Sheriffs attempted a traffic stop on I-30 near Rowlett, Texas. The driver fled and opened fire. The deputy sheriffs returned fire. The deputies were assigned to the North Texas Criminal Interdiction Unit.

Medical personnel at a local hospital later pronounced the suspect deceased. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

At this time, the Collin County Sheriff's Office has not received a report of an injury to any other inpidual at or near the incident.

In accordance with standard procedure, the Texas Rangers are investigating with the full cooperation of the Collin County Sheriff's Office.
