County reports death of woman who tested positive for COVID-19

Collin County Health Care Services (CCHCS) announced that an 80-year-old McKinney woman died today, the fifth death in Collin County of a person who previously tested positive for COVID-19. The woman's official cause of death was attributed to a serious underlying medical condition, and COVID-19 was not included as the cause. She was confirmed to have the virus on April 1, and died this morning at her home. To respect and honor her family, no further personal information will be released.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends," said Collin County Judge Chris Hill. "It is always painful to lose a loved one."

As of last night, CCHCS reported 343 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Collin County residents, with 129 of those individuals reported to have recovered.

Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 have reportedly had mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Symptoms may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. Additionally, some patients have experienced more severe symptoms and health complications. Should individuals experience more severe symptoms, CCHCS encourages individuals to call their health care provider or emergency department prior to arrival to limit exposure.
