Press Release: Collin County Sheriff’s Office Executes Arrests and Search Warrants in Ongoing Fraud Investigation Across North Texas
[Collin County, Texas] - January 29, 2026 - The Collin County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of multiple law enforcement partners, executed coordinated search and arrest warrants today as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into a large-scale fraud and money laundering scheme targeting elderly victims in North Texas. The suspects impersonated federal agents and regulatory officials, using false credentials and threats of prosecution to coerce victims into surrendering high-value assets, including gold, cash, and cryptocurrency.
Victims were directed to act in secrecy and comply with specific instructions, including liquidating financial accounts, purchasing precious metals, and transferring cryptocurrency. Couriers were dispatched to meet victims at public locations and collect the assets, which were then transported to businesses suspected of laundering or converting the proceeds.
Search and arrest warrants were executed today without incident at two locations: one in Frisco and one in Irving. Investigators are actively processing both scenes and recovering evidence, including financial records, electronic devices, and precious metals. Individuals were taken into custody, and additional arrests are anticipated. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, specific details related to those taken into custody will be released at a later time.
Today's operations were carried out with assistance from the Allen Police Department, Irving Police Department, North Richland Hills Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General, the United States Postal Inspection Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Federal Crime Information Center. The broader investigation has also involved coordination with additional state, local, and federal partners.
Evidence gathered confirms this was not an isolated incident, but a repeatable and organized scheme involving multiple victims, couriers, and coordinated financial transfers. The Collin County Sheriff's Office remains committed to uncovering the full scope of this criminal operation.
Sheriff Jim Skinner stated, “Today's coordinated effort reflects months of dedicated investigative work across jurisdictions. Individuals have been taken into custody, and our investigation is far from over. I want to thank all of our law enforcement partners, local, state, and federal, for their professionalism and continued collaboration. Together, we are working to dismantle this criminal operation and hold every person involved accountable.”
