Collin County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Crash Following Attempted Traffic Stop

May 2, 2026 — The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. after deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected of DWI after nearly striking a patrol vehicle.

The vehicle fled, and deputies initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the driver continued to evade deputies, traveling at a high rate of speed and the wrong way on the roadway.

The vehicle crashed near Virginia Parkway and Independence Parkway in McKinney and caught fire. The driver, a juvenile, was able to exit the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger, also a juvenile, was pronounced deceased.

The McKinney Police Department and McKinney Fire Department responded to the scene, and the McKinney Police Department is conducting the crash investigation.

Information obtained at the scene revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a business in McKinney.
