Ongoing Investigation Leads to Arrests in Major Theft Case
[Collin County, Texas] - November 18, 2025 - Investigators with the Collin County Sheriff's Office have arrested two individuals following a prolonged investigation into a series of thefts spanning multiple counties, with total reported losses valued at approximately one quarter of a million dollars.
In August of 2024, investigators began receiving reports of vehicle thefts from a mechanic shop located outside Anna, Texas, owned and operated by Brian Holgate. During the investigation, a pattern emerged involving stolen vehicles reported by Holgate. When investigators contacted the registered owners, discrepancies surfaced, raising suspicion that Holgate had been taking customers' vehicles without permission, stripping them for parts or selling them, and then falsely reporting them as stolen.
In June 2025, investigators identified a second suspect, Calvin McGowen, connected to Holgate and believed to be involved in additional thefts targeting multiple storage facilities across Collin County.
As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested Brian Holgate and Calvin McGowen, both residents of McKinney. Search warrants executed at locations associated with the suspects uncovered evidence linking both individuals to the thefts from the storage facility in Collin County, as well as to additional cases in Grayson County.
Holgate and McGowen have been charged with multiple felony offenses, including:
- Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity - Third-Degree Felony
- Theft of Property Over $30,000 but Less Than $150,000 - Third-Degree Felony
- Theft of Property Over $2,500 but Less Than $30,000 - State Jail Felony
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. We are continuing to work with surrounding jurisdictions to identify additional victims and uncover related criminal activity.
