Update: Body of Missing Kayaker Juan Chaidez Recovered from Lake Lavon

[Collin County, Texas] - This morning, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the body of Juan Chaidez was located and recovered from Lake Lavon near Bratonia Park. Mr. Chaidez had been the subject of an extensive search effort after being reported missing on Saturday while kayaking with his dog.

Search operations resumed at first light and successfully located Mr. Chaidez. He will be transported to the Collin County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Collin County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of Mr. Chaidez, a firefighter with the Dallas Fire Department.

We would also like to thank all of the agencies that assisted in this search, including Wylie Fire Rescue, Lucas Fire Department, Princeton Fire Department, Dallas Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and AMR. Their continued partnership and professionalism are deeply appreciated.

Bratonia Park remains closed to the public until further notice to ensure the safety and integrity of ongoing operations.
