Texas District Courts serve as the state’s highest level trial courts, handling a broad range of civil, family, and criminal matters. Of the 510 District Courts in the state of Texas, Collin County is home to 15 District Courts, each presided over by a judge elected by Collin County voters to a four-year term. Collin County’s 15 District Courts include seven general jurisdiction courts, three courts dedicated exclusively to family cases, one exclusively to civil matters, and four courts that handle a combination of family and civil cases.

Collin County’s District Judges are consistently recognized among the hardest-working and most efficient judges in Texas. According to the Office of Court Administration, more than 31,000 case filings were made in Collin County District Courts in 2025. This represents a 24% increase in filings between 2021 and 2025, far exceeding the statewide average increase of only 9% during the same period. Despite these rapidly growing caseloads, Collin County’s District Judges manage workloads equivalent to nearly one-and-a-half judges each while continuing to resolve cases more efficiently than any other county in Texas. These statistics reflect the judiciary’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving the citizens of Collin County.
