Collin County, Texas – The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is aware of community concerns regarding a financial incident involving the Seis Lagos Utility District.

The Sheriff’s Office received multiple fraud reports related to this matter in January 2026. The case is currently under investigation by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Cybercrime Unit.
At this time, the investigation indicates that the Seis Lagos Utility District was the victim of a phishing scam, and there is no evidence to suggest that members of the district intentionally misappropriated funds.

Investigators have already recovered the vast majority of the funds that were initially lost, and there is still potential for recovery of additional funds. The return of any recovered funds remains pending through the court process under Chapter 47 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, Disposition of Stolen Property.
This investigation remains active and ongoing. Because of this, certain details cannot be released at this time.

We understand the concerns of the Seis Lagos community and want to assure residents that these investigations are often complex and time-sensitive. Due to these factors, the Sheriff’s Office Cybercrime Unit must withhold certain information in order to maintain investigative integrity and maximize the potential recovery of funds. Once the investigation is complete, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office will work with the Seis Lagos Utility District to hold an informational session to answer questions.
