Jury Services

​​​​​​​Our Role

To supply each Collin County District, County-Court-at-Law, and J. P. Court a pool of prospective jurors from which to select a fair and impartial jury in every case requesting a jury trial. To see that each juror receives the compensation entitled to them for the number of days served on a Collin County jury.

​Instructions for Getting In the Courthouse

Please arrive as early as possible to give ample time to find parking, get through security and have enough time to check in at your courtroom or the Central Jury Room. The courthouse doors open as early as 7:00 a.m. Please be aware that the following items ARE NOT allowed to be brought through security:

  • ​Weapons / Ammunition of any kind
    • Firearm / Ammunition / Air Gun/Rifles / Taser/Stun Gun / Loaded/Unloaded Magazine / Shell Casing (empty)
  • Bladed / Sharp Weapons
    • Knives (all types) / Letter Opener / Razor/Razor Blades / Scissors / Card Knife / Fish Hook / Seatbelt Cutter / Brass Knuckles / Key Knife
  • Tools or Utility Items
    • Screwdriver / Multi tool / Pliers / Hammer / Nails/Screws / Cigar Cutters / Cork Screws / Batons/Clubs
  • Flammable, Combustible & Chemical Irritants
    • Lighters / Torch Lighters / Matches / Vapes / E-Cigarettes / Mace/Pepper Spray / Aerosol Sprays
  • Personal Care / Hygiene Items
    • Needles / Syringes / Manicure Tools / Sewing or Knitting Needles
  • Household / Eating Utensils & Containers
    • No metal or glass drink containers/cups / Metal Forks or Spoons. *Plastic, paper or styrofoam cup are permitted to be brought inside
  • Electronic or Surveillance Equipment
    • Digital or video cameras / Smart Glasses with Audio or Visual Recording / Laser Pointer/Powerpoint Clickers

The above list is not all inclusive. Any other items that are deemed to comprimise the security or integrity of the courthouse or courtroom will not be allowed through security.   


Some items to consider bringing with you:

  • Laptop computer and/or tablets. Laptops do not need to be powered on prior to entering the courthouse. Instead, laptops should be run through the security machines seperately and removed from bags and backpacks.                                                                                                                                              
  • Book or magazine to read
  • Sweater or light jacket (the Central Jury Room remains at a very cool temperature)
  • Medical equipment and medications
  • Nursing mothers should bring everything necessary for lactation as private areas are available to accommodate you


​Jury Service Instructions

Instructions were included with your summons/questionnaire because courts may cancel a panel prior to your summons date and jurors may not be needed. Please follow these instructions to determine your jury service prior to your visit to the courthouse. Jurors can also download the Texas Uniform Jury Handbook as authorized by Chapter 23 of the Government Code (English / Spanish).

Jurors may check the reporting status after 5 p.m. on the workday prior to the requested date of service. If a panel is needed you will continue to see your reporting information and you are expected to attend.

If you are NOT NEEDED you will see a message DO NOT APPEAR or SERVICE COMPLETE. You will not need to check your status repeatedly.

Jurors who appear without checking the status of their jury service

  • May not receive credit for attendance
  • Will not satisfy the 24 month exemption
  • May not be paid

Sec. 62.0141. FAILURE TO ANSWER JURY SUMMONS. In addition to any criminal penalty prescribed by law, a person summoned for jury service who does not comply with the summons as required by law or who knowingly provides false information in a request for an exemption or to be excused from jury service is subject to a contempt action punishable by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $1,000.


Sec. 122.001. PROTECTION OF JURORS' EMPLOYMENT; JUROR'S RIGHT TO REEMPLOYMENT; NOTICE OF INTENT TO RETURN. (a) An employer may not discharge, threaten to discharge, intimidate, or coerce any permanent employee because the employee serves as a juror, or for the employee's attendance or scheduled attendance in connection with the service, in any court in the United States.​


Online Juror Services

We have migrated to a new jury application. This system allows you to complete the juror questionnaire, obtain a deferment, enter a legal disqualification or exemption, check the status of your summons, or obtain an attendance letter for your employer. Most questions can be answered within the Juror Access application under the excuse/disqualification link.


If you have received a jury summons in the mail for service, please log into the Juror Access system to do the following:

  • Complete the jury questionnaire. Please Note: You will need to keep the summons postcard to bring with you on your jury service date.
  • Get a one-time deferment.
  • Enter disqualification/excuses criteria.
  • Determine if you need to appear.
  • View a map for directions to the court facility to which you need to report.
  • Obtain an attendance letter for your employer after your jury service is complete.

You must enter your Juror ID Number AND date of birth to perform any of the services listed above.

Public Alert: Scam Emails

Please Note: Collin County is aware of an email scam in which emails purporting to come from the court system are infecting recipients computers with viruses. These emails, instructing recipients to report on a specified date and time, also instruct recipients to review an attached document for case information. When the attachment or links in the email are opened, a virus may be launched.

Unless you are actively involved in a Collin County case or have been summoned for jury duty and have consented to receive emails from the court or jury services, you generally will not receive email communication. If you have any questions regarding such notice, please call the court or Jury Services to verify.

Last Call at the Courthouse Café. 

The Collin County Courthouse Café is winding down service and will only be offereing coffee, drinks and light fare until the café closes permanently on Tuesday, September 30

The café​ is located on the lower level of the Bloomdale Courthouse, next to the Law Library. 


Inclement Weather

Check local TV or radio stations to receive updated Collin County Government office closings or delays.

You may also obtain closing information by calling the Collin County Courthouse main number at (972) 548-4100 (McKinney) or (972) 424-1460 (Metro), or by visiting the Collin County website at www.collincountytx.gov.

In the event that the Collin County offices are closed, your jury service will be cancelled and you will not be rescheduled.
